Sticky floor and sharp elbows
Patrik Fica
I think one of the first concerts I attended as a photographer was a concert in Prostejov, where Redzed performed among other artists. I was completely absorbed by his show. It was something I had never experienced before. Deafening music, bass shaking the space, intense pulsating lights. The behaviour of the audience was transformed. The rising adrenaline levels took away people’s inhibitions. The group excitement made Redzedo and the audience one living organism. I didn’t understand what was happening, but I absolutely loved it. The experience made me want to record the atmosphere and the unique moments that happen on stage, but also off stage.
I’m trying to capture the authentic side of the contemporary rap scene. Photographs from concerts of the most listened to Czech rapper Redzed are mixed with images from underground shows, festivals, parties and after parties. In addition to the performers themselves, the set also focuses on the audience and club environments, allowing for a broader insight into this specific community, which is moving quite far away from the traditional notion of rap. The collection pays homage to the creativity of the artists, the passion and dedication of the fans, and the overall energy that flows through this subculture.
I’d like to dedicate this collection to Redzed, who is a huge source of inspiration to me, but also to every member of the current rap scene, and every fan who comes to catch a show.
