“Masca Populară” invites visitors to step into a time when the year was divided only into two seasons — abundance and hardship. Through animated masks projected onto sculptures, the installation brings to life the symbolic figures of darkness and light rooted in winter rituals of the Wallachian region. The mask animations are a reinterpretation of folklore in a modern design framework. Three masks of darkness were created: Death, Devil and Morana: and three masks of light: Spring, Lucia, Laufre. At the center of the exhibition, visitors can become part of the experience themselves — stepping into the projection to “wear” a contemporary 21st-century mask.
