This Master’s thesis is focused on sleepwear. The first chapter of the theoretical part traces its development from history to the present day through the lens of fashion trends, design, and textile technology. The next chapter deals with the physiology and comfort of clothing, sleep, and its connection to clothing materials used in sleepwear. The practical part of the thesis involves
the analysis and testing of selected materials in relation to comfort. The outcome of the practical part is a sleepwear collection that emphasizes comfort and features the author’s pattern prints
on textiles.
The sleepwear collection Count me in is created primarily with an emphasis on comfort and practical usability. The design is based on the mix & match principle, where different garments from the collection can be combined and worn according to the wearer’s preferences. The cuts are simple, functional, and chosen with consideration for different sleeping positions. The color palette draws from the changing sky between sunset and star rise, which inspired both the motifs and
the idea of repetition tied to sleep – reflected in the author’s textile prints.
The connecting theme is the repetition of rituals and actions associated with sleep, with stars and constellations appearing in each of the patterns. The prints add playfulness while maintaining
the calm atmosphere of the collection. The name Count me in is a wordplay that refers both
to sleep-related activities and the affirmation of being part of this nightly ritual.
