Brauchtum

The inspiration for the Brauchtum footwear (from German, meaning customs or traditions) comes from shoes originating from the Vyškovsko region in the second half of the 19th century. This location is highly specific, as it represents a so-called German enclave, where traditions have been influenced over many years by both original German customs and, for example, Hanakian traditions. The original footwear is characteristic of this environment, and the redesign is based on using original elements in an unconventional way to preserve the tradition while updating it.

The redesigned version adopts the original lines, highlighting interesting aspects or keeping them intact to complement the overall appearance of the footwear. The dominant element of the upper—the tongue—was taken from the original shoe. Its prominence is emphasized not only by its size but also by the use of a different material. The decorative cutting technique, inspired by the decoration on the original sole, has been incorporated. The result is a pair of shoes that visually resemble the original but are not identical. Instead, they highlight what the designer considers the essential features of the original model.

The final project is part of a collection that views traditional folk footwear from a contemporary perspective.
