This term project presents a design set of women’s footwear and a handbag, centered around the themes of variability, spatial efficiency, and object transformation. The collection is conceived with a focus on sustainability and local craft production, drawing on the long-standing tradition of leather processing in the Zlín region.
The first part of the project consists of boots featuring a high degree of aesthetic and functional modification. The dominant element is a detachable trim, which creates a sense of pomposity bordering on theatrical or dance aesthetics, lending the footwear an extravagant character. When this element is removed, the boot transforms into a minimalist model suitable for everyday wear. The construction utilizes premium materials, specifically polished bovine crust leather combined with nubuck and a leather lining. A unique detail is the heel crafted from walnut wood, valued for its high strength, stability, and distinctive grain pattern, which complements the natural character of the entire set.
The footwear is complemented by a variable handbag, the structural design of which is based on the concept of “nomadism” – movement and freedom. The primary innovation lies in its volume transformation; thanks to a specific cut, the body of the bag can be expanded to twice its original size. The object consists of two independently usable parts: a load-bearing leather body and an internal textile lining that can be worn as a separate fabric pouch.
From a material perspective, the emphasis is placed on longevity and quality. The outer components are made of certified 3 mm thick full-grain bovine leather, ensuring shape stability. The internal components are fashioned from a viscose knit with elastic fibers for easy maintenance. The result is a design ensemble that balances between an extravagant artistic object and a practical, functional accessory for daily use.
