This ritual mask belongs to a Moravian goddess. The “goddesses” were traditional folk healers from the region of the White Carpathians. They were reowned for their practice of divine sorcery, thereby diagnosing health issues and providing guidance. Thanks to their deep prayers to God, they were able to reveal the hidden needs and desires of the patient.
These goddesses embodied a deep Christian faith alongside a profound knowlege of herbs, healing, magic and the supernatural.
The “Gabrhelová” mask honors the memory of the very last goddess of the Moravian Kopanice region.
