INFRACTA — mask

The object was created as part of the MEV exhibition titled Masca Popular. The interpretation of the theme reflects what a mask truly represents in the context of society and interpersonal relationships. I explore both personal and public issues that I perceive around me, searching for parallels and contrasts between historical periods and the present day of the 21st century.

Each of us wears our own mask (or masks), which take on different forms depending on the situations we face. They always transform us, at least in part, into someone else – sometimes we wear them out of necessity, other times their presence weighs heavily on us. It is up to us whether we use the mask to our advantage or at the expense of others. A mask has the power to hurt, but it can also protect or help.

I created a physical form of the mask, made of lies, assumptions, and traumas that we hide behind. These elements gradually deconstruct our identity, which I attempted to express through my choice of materials and visual design. The structure is made of stainless steel wire, with stainless steel sheets welded onto it using the TIG method. I also used tulle and fine stainless steel and aluminum wires for fastening
