This work on the topic of Alternative Material focuses on the personality of René Lalique, a prominent Art Nouveau jeweler and artist. His work significantly influenced the development of artistic jewelry at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. I focus primarily on the typical features of his Art Nouveau style. These include work with natural motifs, attention to detail, and an innovative approach to materials. I used René Lalique’s work as the main source of inspiration for the creation of this project. I applied this inspiration both aesthetically and materially.
I made the piece of jewelry from two pierced oak plates in the shape of a leaf. I attached the plates to a brass sheet using brass rivets. These hold the entire piece together. I hung the necklace on a leather cord. I finished the cord with a hook clasp.
