Racing game prototype

The thesis deals with the design and creation of a prototype of a stylized arcade racing game. The main goal of the thesis is to design and implement a game prototype that combines simple game mechanics with a distinctive stylization that draws on historical ideas about the future. The thesis includes a research into the development of racing games, an overview of modern trends, an analysis of selected titles, a design of game mechanics, a visual style, and a technical implementation in a game engine. The output is a functional demo of the game with its own tracks, vehicles, and game system.

The basic concept of my video game follows the principles of arcade racing games such as Horizon Chase Turbo and Hotshot Racing, which are inspired by older titles from the 90s era. Like these games, my prototype relies on a simple, understandable and strongly stylized game model that emphasizes accessible gameplay, strong visuals and fast pace.

The visual style of Retro Cyber Cars is a combination of colorful retro-futurism and low-poly aesthetics. The logo uses a mix of cursive script in the “retro cyber” part and a chunky, angular sans-serif in the “CARS” part, which evokes racing games from the 1980s. The logo is first seen on the splash screen, which smoothly transitions into the opening menu.
