JÄRNVÄG

My work is devoted to the extension and redesign of a wooden kit based on the principle of dormitories for children and their parents.

Slate = stone = the main building element for railways and railway architecture.

The kit I created contains a new type of bridge, which has a self-supporting structure in the case of larger bridge structures. The playful, modern shape of the 21st century and the variability in the kit are important.

Another element is the turntable, which is similar in size to the original, but the shape and principle are different. The turntable is NOT a crossroads.

The station is an element of diverse functions. It can function as an intersection, underpass, overpass, tunnel and as a pillar for the bridge structure of the original Ikei kit.

The tunnel should primarily be a replacement for the original tunnel, even with preserved functions. It acts as a support for existing tracks – the bridge, when turned and supported, can serve as a bridge deck, looking like a prefabricated bridge.

Another simple but functional element is crossings. My kit has three types – left, right and double sided. The left and right can be made into one big one if the components from the kit are used correctly. When all these crossings are turned upside down, they become small stops.

A new part for the kit is a blanking plug that can be used on both sides. What is important is a shape that is pleasant to the hand and easy to handle.

A new expanding subgroup of the kit are houses and their variants and parts. In the first case, the connection is important. The joint is simple, intuitive and not as strict as the lego kit joint. Types of houses – old + roof, new + roof, old house with underpass, old house as an underpass and overpass, house as an intersection.

Trains are an important part of the kit, so even they did not escape my attention. I created three types – an old steam train with a wagon, a new express train and a long-distance train.
