Mask was created based on a research and inspiration from a Chinese saying stating that every person has three faces: one, that we show to the world in our daily life, second, that we reveal to our loved ones, and a third one, that shows our true self. In my work, I decided to portray that third face—my true self.
The primary material consists of cut pine roots, chosen for their reddish hue and their symbolism of something hidden underneath. Natural yarn serves as a secondary material, ensuring greater durability and strength. The mask plays with the metaphor of how others perceive a person from the outside, contrasted with what the wearer sees through the mask and what truly lies within it.
