Shoes inspired by a historical pair of traditional leather slippers from the first half of the 20th century. The mentioned slippers come from Frenštát pod Radhoštěm. As my inspiration, I created a fictional woman of the time who desires elegant shoes made of local and natural materials. Thanks to this, the choice of materials is modest, but timeless. Materials such as wood, three-piece leather, iron in the form of nails, needle and thread.
The distinctive element is then the authentic print, which is created using a mixture of iron, black tea and vinegar. The mixture reacts with the three-piece leather by dyeing it blue. This creates a blueprint on the shoes, which is typical of the region of Southeast Moravia. The embroidery on the upper part is a reference to the town of Frenštát and their patron saint, Saint Martin of Tours. The Via Sancti Martini pilgrimage path is located on the embroidery. Another connection with Saint Martin are the goose tracks on the decorative element on the insole in the heel. I was most inspired by the simple yet functional workmanship of the original pair of selected shoes. To create something very effective and functional from nothing.
