My final project explores the concept of “being between states,” specifically focusing on procrastination. It is a state I know all too well—the feeling of being stuck in limbo, somewhere between what we intend to do and what we actually achieve. This collection, consisting of a pair of loafers and a handbag, is an attempt to capture that internal tension.
The entire collection works with the contrast between black and white. In my work, black represents the negative emotions and frustration of inactivity, while white symbolizes hope and the fresh start we constantly look for while procrastinating. Regarding materials, I focused on the dialogue between glossy and matte leather—the gloss represents our idealistic dreams, while the matte leather stands for the harsh reality we return to when we procrastinate.
A key element on both pieces is a long, tangled lace. It symbolizes a stream of scattered thoughts and the feeling of getting lost or “drowning” in them. To emphasize the theme of incompleteness and being stuck, I removed the tongue from the shoe. This missing part, which should naturally be there, refers to the feeling of being incomplete and the realization that when we put things off, we remain “unfinished.”
