Trends in Design Practice with a Focus on Footwear Design

This bachelor’s thesis addresses the issue of trend research in the fashion industry and its application in the design of footwear and fashion accessories. It is based on the question of how to work with current trends in a way that allows products to maintain their relevance beyond a single season while offering users a longer aesthetic and functional lifespan.

The theoretical part focuses on the functioning of trends, their emergence, dissemination, and life cycle within the context of the fashion industry. It also examines methods of trend research and forecasting used by trend agencies and designers themselves in the development of collections.

Based on an analysis of current fashion trends for the Spring/Summer 2025 and Spring/Summer 2026 seasons, an original trend narrative titled “The City’s Second Skin” was developed for the Spring/Summer 2027 season. This narrative became the conceptual foundation for the design of a footwear and accessories collection intended for women aged 20–35 whose daily lives are primarily shaped by urban environments.

The collection responds to the need for versatile and long-lasting products capable of accompanying the wearer through various situations of everyday life. Emphasis is placed on aesthetics, comfort, and consideration of the specific needs of women with narrower feet. A minimalist foundation enriched with interchangeable elements, thoughtfully designed details, and a focus on high-quality craftsmanship creates a versatile collection that extends beyond the scope of a single season and seeks a balance between contemporary relevance and timeless appeal.
