Návrh mobilní scény pro Živý Zlín

The goal of my semester’s work was to create a mobile stage for Živý Zlín.
Live Zlin is a nonprofit organization organizing a number of events in a public space. These events are organized by up to 70 per year and consist of dance performances, concerts, programs for children and the like, and take place in various locations in Zlín.

The requirements of the stage include storage, variability, easy assembly and interesting shape. So I created two basic dynamic shapes that I worked with in the design. They both emanate from a square with a side length of two metres. I use the shapes for both the backdrop and the stage itself. Everything is complemented by the colors of Živý Zlín, i.e. orange, blue and yellow and their complementary colors.

Shapes and folding options

The shape with a wool lens is based on a square and the other shape is based on a circle. The advantage of these unusual shapes is storage, many variations of folding and, above all, their dynamics and vibrancy. They are used for the backdrop and the stage itself. The basic folding options include folding into a circle, oval, square, oblong, pier and other interesting and irregular shapes.

Technical solution

The elements of the stage have several layers. The upper plate is made of waterproof plywood coated with balletizole. Underneath is a honeycomb plate also consisting of waterproof plywood plates containing grooves. It attaches to the top board in a way that it slides between the protrusions that will hold it.

The protrusions are drilled to the top plate. The plates are milled in some places and can be connected to each other by a thin recessed sheet with holes that fit into the protrusions in the adjacent board. So everything works on a jigsaw puzzle basis. Terrain inequalities are addressed by adjustable rectification legs.

The backdrop can be dyed using base varnish on polystyrene and then synthetic paints. Baner is mounted on two metal pipes that are embedded in the podium boards and attached to the bottom plates with grooves using sleeves . Baner should be perforated due to wind resistance.

In addition to the banger, fabrics can be placed on metal pipes, which can be illuminated to create an interesting atmosphere of the scene. The sides of the stage are also covered with balletizole, creating a uniform appearance. They are attached to the plates by a magnetic band. The stage is 45 cm high, you can sit comfortably on it. The backdrop is made of extruded polystyrene in the colours of Vivid Zlin and has dimensions of 180x90x45cm at the shape with a wool lens and 100x100x45cm at the other shape.
