The Return to Roots Park

Design of a park by the Stezka zdraví Tlustá hora in Zlín. Original task – create an object situated in nature based on the theme of return to roots (upon request changed to a space in nature instead).

The form of the park is based on my thoughts on what are “the roots” of people – meaning the things that ground us, nurture us and allow us to grow. My answers are community and instrospection and the goal of my design was to create a space which connects these two roots and offers both places for group activities and more secluded contemplation and meditation. It is not often that we find places based on both these principles in our central european society but I did my best to draw inspiration from our culture and history.

Aside from the transition from company to soliture there is also a transition from city to nature reflected in the design through the use of materials (concrete, bricks, stone, wood). This visual change is meant to support and prompt the necessary mental shift during a return from meditational solitude to society and vice versa to prevent shock.
