SEXY SILVER: intimacy and sexuality of seniors in residential social care facilities

The Sexy Silver project is an experimental probe into the world of seniors and their experience of intimacy and sexuality in residential care facilities. It is based on a series of in-depth interviews with ten residents of a home for the elderly and a special care home. These are accompanied by photographs of the environment, which I have artistically processed using the technique of cyanotype and printing on dibond.

Methodologically, the project is based on the principles of art-based research and uses a number of alternative approaches: from cultural probing (photovoice), where the seniors themselves document their perception of intimacy through photographs, to drawing methods (Map of Pleasure, Drawing of Intense Sexual Experience).

The curatorial libretto of the exhibition focuses on the environment of the homes to open up issues of the experience of sexuality and intimacy in them. The installation includes discarded bedding from a retirement home with cyanotypes and screen-printed prints on dibond. The focal point is a pink telephone, through the receiver of which visitors will hear a selection of the seniors’ testimonies.
