Diploma thesis with the title Visiting a cultural institution as part of well-being practice focuses on the transformation of galleries and museums in the 21st century. Current studies prove that the viewer’s contact with a work of art improves their quality of life. Therefore, these institutions today become not only a place that takes care of our cultural heritage but can become a space that affects the quality of life in society. This work is built on
a theoretical foundation that draws on the experience of foreign institutions, research and the goals of the European Union. The theoretical part deals with the definition of terms, examples from abroad and the possibility of their application to the domestic environment. The practical part of this work is the creation of cards with activities that deepen the viewer’s experience when interacting with a work of art. Part of applying the cards is qualitative research and consultation with experts from the National Center for Mental Health and educators from the Gallery of Modern Art in Hradec Kralove.
