Space Weather System

SWB is a visual identity concept for a fictional interstellar television network. Unlike terrestrial weather reports that focus on comfort, this broadcast focuses on survival. The project imagines a future where humanity spans the solar system, requiring a new visual language to warn colonists about complex atmospheric hazards, from radiation storms to methane rain.

Visual Style & Process

The design aesthetic is a tribute to Industrial Sci-Fi and Cassette Futurism. Drawing inspiration from Ron Cobb’s “Semiotic Standard” (seen in the movie Alien) and the brutalist functionality of vintage Teletext, the UI is designed to look like a critical utility.

Using Adobe Illustrator, I developed a custom system of heavy-stroke pictograms to represent specific alien physics and environments:

Solar Array Alpha: Monitoring Class X Solar Flares and lethal radiation dosage.

Mars Colony: Visualizing Global Dust Storms and visibility hazards.

Titan Sector 7: Depicting toxic Methane Monsoons and liquid hydrocarbon accumulation.

Europa Outpost: Warning against active Cryo Geysers and seismic tremors.

Luna Tranquility Base: Tracking high velocity Meteor Showers in a vacuum environment.
