Interspaces in the School Environment

This project focuses on modernizing shared spaces at T. G. Masaryk Elementary School in Otrokovice, including hallways and larger communal areas across all three floors. It also proposes transforming the school’s atrium into an additional relaxation area. The primary goal was to design these spaces to become inspiring and functional environment for the whole school community. My aim was to create spaces that encourage creativity, relaxation, and collaboration while aligning with modern trends in school interior design.

The individual areas were divided into different zones: active, relaxation, and representative. The design approach and color palette were selected accordingly. In active zones, vibrant colors and playful elements dominate. Relaxation zones feature calmer tones—mainly cool shades—with more seating options. The representative zone highlights the school’s achievements, displaying student awards on a dedicated wall. This area is complemented by ample seating that can be stored within modular shelving units. A key design feature running throughout the entire space is a simplified tree silhouette that wraps around columns from floor to ceiling, creating illuminated ceiling features.

↓↓↓ Active Zones (Ground Floor and 1st Floor): Spaces for fun during breaks, offering table and wall games, seating, and interactive elements.

↓↓ Representative Zone (1st Floor): The central hallway near the headmaster’s office serves as a multifunctional space for meetings, performances, award ceremonies, and relaxation.

↓↓ Atrium: An outdoor environment for fresh-air relaxation during breaks.

↓↓↓↓ Relaxation Zones (1st and 2nd Floor): Partitioned with lacquered metal frames to reduce noise. These areas offer options for sitting or lying down, along with small tables and bookshelves. Wall-mounted games that don’t require physical activity ensure a quiet, distraction-free atmosphere.

↓↓↓↓ Showcase Classroom: A model classroom that sets the standard for future classroom designs.
