The Final Bite

The collection of bronze pins is inspired by the tradition of carnival processions and their iconic masks — the straw man, the horse, and the bear. During the door-to-door visits, the masked figures stop at houses where they are treated to traditional homemade delicacies such as pork feast specialties, doughnuts, and spirits. Suspended on leather cords, the pins serve both as practical objects and personal ornaments: the masquerader wears them around the neck as a necklace and uses them to spear food without dirtying their hands or mask.

The forms of the objects are derived from materials traditionally used in the making of carnival masks — straw, wood, string, and paper. Their textures and imprints are subsequently transferred into bronze, giving permanence to these ephemeral folk materials. The collection combines craftsmanship, folklore, and contemporary authorial jewelry in objects that exist on the boundary between functional items and symbolic talismans.
