For my expression, I mainly use textiles and embroidery. Using a frame, I created a fold-out folio that reminds me of a toy from my childhood. Using the punch needle embroidery technique, I created a story depicting the journey of finding my inner child and dealing with trauma.
In the first picture, I capture the moment when I first became aware of my inner child. Next, I depict a figure who is a prisoner of herself. I express confusion, distress and trauma with a black cluster that surrounds her. Upon closer inspection, you can see a figure whose lines I highlight with a gold line. This is my self-portrait, expressing how I felt before I started to solve my problem. The heart represents the process of healing the trauma through communication with my inner child, but it is not completely healed, although it is slowly getting there. The last picture depicts my inner child, contentedly sitting in the grass with flowers that are starting to grow. I connect all the images with a rope, depicting a path that goes beyond the frame of the image and continues beyond it, symbolizing freedom.
