Retail Security System Interface

This is a bachelors thesis, made on TBU in Zlín. It focuses on retail security measures and designs a new unified interface to be used by a single security guard, giving him a suite of tools to easily watch over the whole shop and prevent thefts, as well as deal with other incidents. I worked as a real security guard three times, gathering experience and knowledge, which was used to design this project.

The final product represents a guard’s workstation, that connects most important existing systems into one seamless interface – CCTV cameras, detection frames (EAS), cash registers, doors, and more. If the guard is meant to be alone, it is ideal to position this workstation as a security kiosk near front door, so that the guard is present at all times and can easily and quickly respond to EAS and incidents.

The prototype was made in Figma, an industry standard prototyping tool. No real criminal, nor personal information, is displayed in the project – all images are strictly illustrational.

By revealing some of the inner workings of the security world I never dare anyone to commit crime, because even though I describe some problems in the theoretical thesis, these can not be applied to all retail stores and no one should ever consider stealing to be easy – it is not! And shop owners with their security guards do everything to prevent and fight shoplifting.
